Dubai-based logistics company Aramex is investing heavily in big data and artificial intelligence (AI) experts as it works to improve on the efficiency of deliveries in the markets in which it operates, according to chief operating officer Iyad Kamal.
In an interview with Arabian Business, Kamal said that “there is a lot of innovation and creativity happening on the digital track” at Aramex.
“We’re looking at what technologies we can deploy to either introduce efficiency in the process itself or enhance the customer experience,” he said.
Among the technologies that Aramex is exploring are geo-location and AI-powered route optimisation.
“If you want to get from point A to point B, why should we take a certain route and not an alternative one,” Kamal said. “That’s all data driven and based on capacity, traffic and load. AI, Big Data analysis and machine learning are where a lot of the investments are in Aramex.”
Additionally, Kamal said that Aramex is exploring automation in its facilities to help expedite deliveries.
“Still, the amount of advancements in technology is mind boggling,” he said. “There are still a lot of advancements to be made [at Aramex].
Although he declined to give a firm number, Kamal said that Aramex has already recruited additional staff members with relevant skills and is currently searching for more.
