The founder of UAE-based digital and cyber transformation firm DarkMatter has announced that he is in the process of concluding purchase agreements with multiple parties to divest all assets and capabilities in the UAE and internationally.

The sale is expected to be concluded by year end, said Faisal Al Bannai, founder and managing director of DarkMatter Group. Details of the transactions were not disclosed.

The announcement follows a successful trajectory for DarkMatter Group as a digital entity in the field of digital transformation, secure communications, and cyber resilience throughtout the industry and region, he added.

“In less than five years we have been able to build essential and trusted digital enablement, cyber resilience, and secure communications capabilities enriching the lives of many, both here in the United Arab Emirates and beyond,” said Al Bannai.

“We can be proud of these foundations and confident that the new owners will continue to build upon these achievements in the future.”

Earlier this year, DarkMatter launched a mobile phone designed to withstand extreme field conditions – a device that the company described as being world’s first ultra-secure smartphone.

According to the company, the Katim R01 – designed by DarkMatter engineers in the UAE, Finland and Canada – includes five layers of hardened case designed to meet military standards, and can be dropped, run over and immersed in water for up to half an hour.

The device also includes a built-in barometer, temperature and humidity sensors which are designed to help the phone withstand vibrations, water, dusty, altitude and extreme temperatures.

In emergency situations, the Katim can deliver SOS messages with GPS coordinates through a dedicated button and touch screen that is accurate even with gloved and wet hands.
