Families in the UAE with no internet will be given free data so children can access distance learning.

Schools in the country were forced to close their doors early, two weeks before the start of the spring break, as part of measures to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus. Teachers and students are set to go live with online learning from Sunday.

That includes families with no home internet services following an announcement from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

Both Du and Etisalat have agreed to provide internet data packages via mobile phones to ensure the learning continues for all students across the UAE, free of charge.

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) had previously sent a questionnaire around parents asking about the availability of home internet services.

There are currently 113 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UAE.
