Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) is one of the largest industrial companies in the Middle East and is one of the top 10 largest aluminium producers in the world.
It officially commenced operations in 1971 to diversify Bahrain’s economic base and reduce its dependence on oil.
From an initial 120,000 tonnes per annum, the company today produces more than 971,000 metric tonnes of high grade aluminium and by-products. It is a major contributor to the social, industrial and economic development of Bahrain, employing over 2,600 people, of whom around 84 percent are Bahrainis.
Alba is set to become the world’s largest single-site aluminium smelter when the new metal production facility is ready, due by early 2019, adding 540,000 metric tonnes per year.
