If you're after a delicious - but more importantly, timely – lunch between meetings, the newly opened Fume in Downtown Dubai offers no frills food at speed

The problem with a posh three-course business lunch is time. By the time you have perused the oversized menu and ordered three opulent dishes, half an hour has gone by. Add in cooking and eating time, and your quick lunch out has turned into an afternoon event.

But there is a better way. Fumé has long been a bastion for no-fuss sharing dishes. Food comes out of the kitchen quickly, and when it is ready. It's the secret to the establishment's no reservation policy, and judging by the full dining room most evenings, it's a policy that works.

But how does the concept translate to daytime? The business lunch gives you a choice of one dish or two dishes and a coffee. Food is light and fresh: think quinoa salads, grilled prawns and a host of ciabatta sandwiches.

If you're hungry, larger dishes like the minute steak with chimi-churri sauce or Malaysian laksa curry are both filling, and delicious. Unlike the dinner menu, some dishes are more suited to be eaten by one, while others designed to be shared. It's up to you – and your companions – to decide.

What hasn't changed is the speed at which dishes leave the kitchen. Starters, if chosen, appear rapidly. It's clear the lunch menu has been designed with speed in mind, which will no doubt please those with little time on their hands.
