Ibrahim S. Dabdoub is Group CEO of the National Bank of Kuwait, a position he has held since 1983. NBK has consistently been awarded the highest credit rating of all banks in the region by Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s and Fitch Ratings. The bank is also ranked as one of the top 50 safest banks in the world and currently operates in 17 countries, boasting one of the largest overseas branch networks.
Ibrahim Dabdoub began his banking career in 1961 in Kuwait at NBK, rising from head of credit in 1969 to his current position. He successfully steered the bank through the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, temporarily moving operations to London from where NBK was the only Kuwaiti bank to remain open for business.
He studied at the Collège des Frères in Bethlehem, The Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey and at Stanford University, California, USA. In October 1995, Mr Dabdoub was awarded the title of ‘Banker of the Year’, by the Arab Bankers Association of North America (ABANA) and in December 1997, the Union of Arab Banks named him ‘Arab Banker of the Year’.
