April is upon us and the region is about to witness the most extensive series of events for meetings industry professionals that the Middle East has ever seen.

The month kicks off with the Gulf Meetings and Events Conference; Meeting Professionals International's (MPI's) first Middle East event, which is set to take place at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City from April 5 to 6.

MPI has invited local meeting professionals to come along and learn about international industry standards and what is happening in the industry in the rest of the world from a line-up of international speakers and industry colleagues.

Delegates have one day to recover, then it's down the road to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) for the second Gulf Incentives, Business Travel and Meetings (GIBTM) exhibition from April 8 to 10.

Organiser Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) has promised a bigger and better show than last year's inaugural event, with an educational seminar programme to complement the topics discussed at the MPI event.

Then IIR Exhibitions will throw the doors open to Event 360 - an event dedicated to strategic event organisers and destination management professionals, as well as corporate event and meeting planners - from April 27 to May 1.

The programme for the latter also includes a line-up of guest speakers who will address key industry issues and burning questions from delegates in panel sessions and workshops.

If the organisers of all of the above events have succeeded in achieving the right mixture of exhibitors, visitors, speakers and educational topics - which I am sure they have - the region is almost certain to boast a industry of enlightened and forward-thinking meetings professionals by the beginning of May.
