Time Out circulation figures on the up

Entertainment magazine Time Out Dubai has posted a new circulation figure which would allow it to lay claim to being Dubai’s largest circulating monthly of its type — if it hadn’t just gone weekly.

The new figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation in the UK give the ITP title an average headline monthly distribution figure of 29,855 from January to June of this year. Its Time Out Abu Dhabi stablemate posted a figure of 16,191 for the same period.

In June, rival title What’s On, published by Motivate, claimed the bragging rights after posting a BPA-audited circulation of 28,347.

But in the latest ABC figures for Time Out Dubai, the circulation grew by nearly 3000 to take it into pole position. Only about a quarter of the copies — 5474 — were bought on the newsstand at full cover price. A total of 24,297 were listed as coming through monitored free distribution. Many copies are circulated free to hotel rooms to reach visitors to the UAE.

Time Out Abu Dhabi, which is remaining monthly, saw basic newsstand sales of just 588, with a monitored free distribution of 13,603.

Meanwhile, Time Out group sales manager Victoria Hazell claimed the move to weekly had been well received by the market. She said: “The reaction has been really positive.

Some of the initial reaction was that, with the move coming half way through the year, budgets have been spent, and we’ve had to be flexible and will be until the end of the year. “But once the advertisers understand we’re able to offer weekly listings for things like TV and cinema they are absolutely delighted.”
