Traffic accidents kill 88 in Yemen over holiday period

Country's interior ministry blames speeding, carelessness and qat.

At least 88 people were killed in traffic accidents in Yemen over the Muslim Eid Al-Adha holiday, the interior ministry reported on Saturday.

The accidents over the period running from Dec. 4 to 12 were caused by excessive speed, carelessness and consumption of qat - the leafy drug widely chewed in Yemen - the ministry was quoted as saying by the Saba news agency.
