Transition Networks provides remote management

Transition Networks is extending the reach of managed networks and looking to enhance the cost effectiveness of remote management with its Management Aggregation Converter (MAC).

Transition Networks is extending the reach of managed networks and looking to enhance the cost effectiveness of remote management with its Management Aggregation Converter (MAC). The system is comprised of two main units — one for reporting and one for management — with each unit offering a 100Base-Fxfibre port and four 10/100 TX ports.According to the vendor, when deployed in an Ethernet network MAC’s management unit can monitor and control several reporting units. Additionally users manage remote reporting units with a Point Systems chassis that incorporates management functionality and negates the need to use the main management unit.‘The management [unit] enables network administrators to manage each port on the reporting units in a system separately, and in-band. [Management] is done in-band because management data is securely embedded in the Ethernet packet and travels on the same fibre network as the network data,” says the vendor.“The MAC converter is the answer to those [enterprises] demanding a product for applications of relatively low port density, where remote management and cost efficiency are crucial,” adds Transition.
