More than 3.2 million people used Dubai's public transport system during the New Year holiday, the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Tuesday.

The authority said that the Dubai metro, tram, buses, marine transport and taxis lifted a total of 3,286,873 riders from December 31 to January 1.

It said the Dubai Metro lifted 1,288,316 riders, public buses served 722,572 riders, marine transport modes ferried 124,159 rides, and 53,234 riders used the Dubai Tram, while the RTA’s taxicabs during the mentioned two days carried 1,098,592 people.

The RTA added that the ridership of RTA’s public transit means is "continuously on the up" thanks to the growing culture of using alternatives to their own cars.
