An Etihad Airways Airbus A380 passenger aircraft en route to New York from Abu Dhabi was forced to divert after declaring an in-flight emergency, Etihad confirmed on Monday.

According to an Etihad spokesperson, the flight was diverted due to a passenger suffering from a medical emergency.

The flight, which took off from Abu Dhabi at 3:13 AM on Monday and was scheduled to land in New York’s JFK Airport at 9:15 AM, landed at Iceland's main airport, Keflavik International Airport at 12.40pm UAE time.
