DXB passenger numbers rise by 4.5% in March

Airport operator says passenger numbers are up 1.1% in Q1 compared to the same period last year

DXB passenger numbers rise by 4.5% in March

A total of 7.85 million passengers travelled through Dubai International Airport (DXB) in March, a 4.5 percent increase over the same time period last year.

According to official figures released on Wednesday, 7,852,501 passengers passed through the airport, compared to 7,511,431 in March 2017.

Overall, passenger numbers are up 1.1 percent during Q1 2018, with 22,741,194 passengers compared to 22,496,596 recorded during the same time frame in the previous year.

Additionally, the number of passenger flights fell 1.5 percent to 34,126, compared to 34,634 last year. Passengers per flight, however, continued to be above the industry average in March, with 230, a 2.7 percent increase from the 224 recorded during the corresponding period in 2017.

Year-to-date, there have been 98,839 flights, down 1.8 percent from the 100,638 flights recorded in the first three months of 2017.

London was found to be the top destination city in March, with 348,434, compared to Mumbai (216,970) and Bangkok (208,873).

At a county level, India remained the top destination in March with a total of 1,043,580 passengers, followed by the UK (572,080), Saudi Arabia (566,292), Pakistan (389,090) and Germany (279,087).

The largest areas with the most significant increases in passenger numbers were found to be Eastern Europe – which recorded a 29.8 percent increase compared to last March – followed by the countries of the CIS, which recorded 28.3 percent year-on-year growth.

Freight volumes in March were recorded at 222,045 tonnes, a 5.7 percent reduction from the 235,503 recorded in the same period of 2017.
