Trucks and worker transportation buses could be prevented from driving on Abu Dhabi roads during fog in a bid to reduce accidents.
Abu Dhabi Police on Tuesday launched an awareness campaign for drivers and road users, which aims to promote safe driving in foggy weather.
Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, highlighted in comments published by state news agency WAM the importance of safe driving and reducing mistakes while driving in a fog.
He also stressed that preventive measures taken during times of fog include broadcasting warning messages on the national early notification system and traffic instructions on smart towers, as well as warning drivers about accidents.
WAM said that the measures can also include banning trucks and worker transportation buses with passenger capacity of 14-60 passengers from driving during fog.
Al Khaili added that awareness messages will be posted on the police’s social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in Arabic, English and Urdu.
Al Khaili urged drivers to leave a safe distance between vehicles to avoid accidents in foggy conditions. For all the latest transport news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
