A runway at Bahrain International Airport was closed for an hour on Tuesday afternoon following an oil leak.

According to the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the closure was necessary following an oil leak from a plane which had arrived in the kingdom.

A statement said: “The runway was closed this evening for around an hour, starting 4.27pm in a precautionary measure for the safety of passengers. Five flights were diverted to Dammam Airport and another to Kuwait International Airport.”

BAC announced that it had taken “all necessary and required measures in such cases to remove the leaked oil from the runway and ensure safe plane landing and take-off.”
