Italy has registered 470 cases of the deadly virus and claimed the lives of 12 people
Kuwait Airways has scheduled a special flight on Thursday to evacuate nationals from Italy, which is at the heart of the coronavirus outbreak in Europe.
Italy has registered 470 cases of the deadly virus, which has claimed the lives of 12 people. The worst affected areas are in the industrial north of the country – Lombardy, the region around Milan, and Veneto, near Venice.
In a press statement, the national carrier said on Wednesday that the flight is set to take off from Milan at 2.25pm (local time) and return home at 10.15pm (Kuwait time).
The evacuation process comes in coordination with the ministries of foreign affairs, health and interior, as well as the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, it added.
The airline stressed it was available to evacuate further Kuwaiti passengers if necessary to ensure their return home safely.
Currently there are 26 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kuwait.
