Saudi Arabia bans expats from ride-hailing jobs

Kingdom aims to secure opportunities for its nationals during Covid-19 pandemic

Saudi Arabia bans expats from ride-hailing jobs

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development on Wednesday said it will restrict the jobs to Saudi nationals only.

Expats will no longer be able to take up jobs to transport passengers in the ride-hailing industry in Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom aims to secure jobs for its nationals during economic challenges as a result on Covid-19.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development on Wednesday said it will restrict the jobs to Saudi nationals only, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Establishments who violate the decision will face penalties, the ministry said, stressing the importance of abiding by the rule.

Saudi Arabia last week recorded a total of 1,720 coronavirus infections, with six new deaths having been reported on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 16, though recoveries also rose to 264, according to Saudi Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabiah.
