Careem, the Dubai-based ride-hailing app, has announced a new pricing structure for its Careem Economy service – the most basic offering available on the smartphone powered service.
The starting fare will now depend on the time of day, starting from AED5.4 and rise to AED6.7 and then, at peak times, AED10.6 – a change from the flat AED8 currently. The minimum fare will also fall from AED16.5 to AED15. The waiting fare will also drop from AED58.4 per hour to AED51.5 per hour.
What will rise, though, is the moving fare: from AED2.24 per kilometre to AED2.38.
Fares from Careem Kids will also undergo a revision, with the starting rate moving from a fixed AED17 to a rate sliding from AED12.4 to AED13.7 and to an upper limit of AED17.6. The minimum fare will also fall to AED22.
The new fares will come into effect on Monday, May 7. GO Beta and Business rates will remain unchanged.
The changes were announced in a release that said, by way of explanation, “Careem is committed to bringing the most reliable, safe and affordable service whilst also ensuring we are fully compliant with local regulations in Dubai.”
