The UAE is to be included on a list of countries to be granted visas on arrival in Pakistan as part of new relaxed policies, according to government officials.

According to Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to formally announce the new scheme later on Thursday.

Hussain said that the new visa on arrival policies will initially be rolled out to citizens of the UAE, Turkey, China, Malaysia and the UK. He added that eventually, 45 other countries will be included, including all the member states of the GCC.

“The basic aim is that we should not see Pakistan in the perspective of a security state and open the country for the world,” he is quoted as saying by Gulf News.

In January, Pakistan announced that it would also offer electronic visas to citizens of 175 countries.

As part of the new rules, there will no longer be restrictions on visas for journalists or restricted areas for visitors in which they would have previously required no-objection certificates.

Additionally, the length of student visas have been extended from one to two years, while diplomatic visas have been extended from one year to three years. International Air Transport Association (IATA) approved operators will now also be allowed to bring tour groups to the country.
