The Abu Dhabi-based airline will launch the 787 on its route to Johannesburg from August 1, to Lagos from August 2, and to Milan from September 1, replacing the Airbus A330s currently operating the routes.
The service to Johannesbury and Milan is daily while flights to Lagos take place four days a week.
All three destinations will be configured with 299 seats - 28 Business Studios and 271 Economy Smart Seats.
Etihad Airways said its global network to and from Abu Dhabi will see more 787 Dreamliners introduced on key destinations as the airline takes delivery of more of the type.
