Lonely Planet guide describes emirate as 'stirring alchemy of profound traditions and ambitious futuristic vision'
Dubai has been listed in the top ten cities to visit in 2020.
The emirate, which comes in at number nine, is the only destination to feature from the Middle East region in the Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel for 2020 guide. Cairo, in Egypt, is placed at number three.
The Lonely Planet website says: “They are the best of the best. They are destinations overlooked by most travellers or familiar hotspots offering new reasons to return. They are Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel for 2020.”
Lonely Planet describes Dubai as a "stirring alchemy of profound traditions and ambitious futuristic vision wrapped into starkly evocative desert splendor".
It adds: “The future is now in Dubai as the superlative-craving emirate launches several boundary-pushing marquee projects in 2020.”
It mentions Expo 2020 Dubai, the Museum of the Future and The World Islands as must-see attractions in the emirate next year.
Salzburg, in Austria, was number one on the list, followed by Washington DC in the USA.
