A new funding round that included Kalanick’s (pictured) personal investment-fund, Tinder co-founder Justin Mateen and Indian ad-tech mogul Div Turakhia has raised $20 million to expand to new locations in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick-backed 3D-printed hotels start-up Habitas is eying locations in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Middle East for expansion, according to media reports.

The start-up has already printed hotel rooms in Tulum, Mexico using the 3D-printing technology.

Habitas’ co-founder, Oliver Ripley, said in an interview with the FT that the company expects to have eight locations by the end of this year, starting with a hotel in Namibia that will open by the end of February.

Oliver also revealed that he recently travelled to Saudi Arabia, as well as Bhutan, to explore other possible locations.

According to the company, the basic structures of a hotel can be shipped to their final location and assembled to meet local demands and conditions.

The firm can construct up to 100 rooms per month, meaning that it can build entire hotels in between six and nine months.
