Qatar Rail says 85% of tunnelling finished and 37% of overall project completed
Qatar Rail announced yesterday that it completed tunnelling work on the northern section of the longest line of the Doha Metro.
The work on the Red Line, which is located between Legtaifiya Station and Qatar University (QU), comes in line with the firm’s plans to complete the tunnelling process by autumn this year.
According to the Peninsula newspaper, Qatar Rail said that over 85 percent of tunnelling for the entire metro has finished and that overall project completion has reached 37 percent.
It also stated that 37 stations of the first phase of the Doha Metro are under construction.
Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, managing director of Qatar Rail, said the firm is on track despite challenges last year including the flooding of one of its Tunnel Boring Machines.
“It is well know that one of our TBMs was flooded one year ago and the achievement today shows how effective our recovery operations were and that overall project progress was not affected. Across the project as a whole we are continuing to move to plan,” he said.
Sara Al Muhannadi, head of business development, Qatar Rail, said the firm is also on the verge of completing the tunnelling on the Gold and Green Lines.
The first phase of the Doha Metro project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019.For all the latest construction news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
