Two Emiratis remain missing after they disappeared while swimming off the Omani coast on Friday, according to Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, Muscat Daily reported.

The brothers were holidaying with cousins and friends when they were among a group of six who went swimming off Al Dimr in Dhofar region.

Search and rescue operations including boats, divers and helicopters from the Royal Air Force of Oman were called into help search for them but hopes of finding them alive were fading, the daily said.

They were believed to have been swept away by high waves and a strong current.
