Two Saudis in the US have been detained on charges related to illegally renting firearms and purchasing ammunition.

A third Saudi national is wanted with regard to the same charges, but is believed to have already left the country, according to a report by Arab News.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the two detained Saudis each rented a pistol and a rifle, plus 150 rounds of ammunition, at a shooting rage in Poway, California.

Local media reported that the gun shop owner became suspicious after seeing the three men taking videos on their phones of themselves practising with the weapons.

US law prohibits anyone entering the country on study visas from renting or buying weapons without a licence.

A report from the NBC Television network said there was no suggestion that the incident was related to terrorism.
