A 30-year-old Saudi woman was stopped driving a car in Riyadh after fleeing police on Friday night.

A speeding car raised the suspicion of police patrol teams in the Shaqra province of Riyadh and failed to heed their calls to stop.

Following a long chase, police managed to stop the fleeing car by bumping their vehicle into it.

In addition to the female driver of the car, the other occupant was also a woman.

Police called the relatives of the two women and, after necessary action, they were released and their car was seized.

While there is no written law that specifically bans women from driving in Saudi Arabia, senior government clerics have issued several religious edicts that prohibit women from driving.
