General Civil Aviation Authority says Dubai accounts for 45% of air traffic movements.
The skies above the UAE were busy as ever in February, with air traffic movements up 12.7 percent on the same period last year.
According to UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), average daily air traffic movements in February 2010 were 1707. This represents an increase of 12.7% compared to February 2009 which saw a daily average of 1515 air traffic movements.
According to news agency WAM, Dubai ranked first with 21847 air traffic movements, representing almost 45.7% of total UAE air traffic movements.
Overflights – where aircraft enter UAE airspace but do not touch down - stood next at 10263, representing 21.5% of total air traffic movements. Abu Dhabi ranked third with 7128 flights, or 15% of total UAE air traffic movements in February 2010.
In the same month the GCAA issued and renewed 19 certificates for aircraft maintenance companies, 12 aircraft registration certificates, and 34 airworthiness certificates. It conducted six inspections and audits, while 10 new aircraft were registered.
