The UAE on Monday announced details of the New Year holidays for employees in the public sector.

UAE’s federal ministries and entities will be closed on Sunday, January 1, 2012, a circular issued by the Federal Government Human Resources Authority said.

However, work will resume on Monday, January 2, the statement added.

Labour minister Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash later announced Jan 1 as a public holiday for the private sector as well.

The UAE's banking sector will remain closed on Jan 1, according to a central bank circular.

Great news for UAE. Now I wish for Qatar to introduce a New Year's Holiday. Qatar is the only place I have ever worked where New Years isn't celebrated.
