The UAE Armed Forces have launched a ground offensive on the Houthi rebel militants advances in Marib as part of the Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen.

An Emirati servicemen was martyred during the operations, the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces announced.

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced last month that November 30 would be observed as Martyr's Day in memory of those who have died while serving their country.

Saudi Arabia and a coalition of other Sunni Muslim states have been fighting since March to restore Yemen's exiled government and to repel the Iran-allied, Shi'ite Houthis, who took control of the capital Sanaa in September.
