The Memory of the World programme aims to fully preserve and protect historical documents related to humanitarian issues
The UAE will chair an international advisory committee responsible for registering and preserving original documents relating to global humanitarian issues, official news agency WAM reported.
The Memory of the World programme is part of the Organisation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and aims to fully preserve and protect historical documents requiring special preservation techniques.
A number of leading experts and heads of national archive programs from 16 countries have been appointed to the committee.
“The vision of the Memory of the World programme is that the world's documentary heritage belongs to all, should be fully preserved and protected for all and, with due recognition of cultural mores and practicalities, should be permanently accessible to all without hindrance,” the statement on WAM says.
