Fan reportedly fined $68,000 after posting offensive picture and comments on Twitter

UAE fan fined for tweeting sports club insult

A UAE sports fan has reportedly been found guilty of insulting an unnamed sports club over social media.

The defendant was fined AED250,000 ($68,000) at Abu Dhabi Misdemeanor’s Court on Monday, and ordered to pay the claimant’s legal fees as well.

The man was convicted of posting abusive comments concerning the sports club in question – which was not named – and attached a photo that “humiliated the name and reputation of the club”, according to Khaleej Times.

The accused reportedly admitted posting the tweets but denied he had intended to offend the club.
