Gulf state inks multimillion-dirham military deals during defence show in capital
The UAE Air Force has signed an AED993.5m ($270.4m) deal to upgrade its Black Hawk helicopter fleet.
The agreement was confirmed at IDEX with US manufacturer Sikorsky, and will see 23 helicopters refurbished.
"It's a utility aircraft, so it has different uses," Major General Obeid Al Ketbi told reporters during a defence show in the UAE capital Monday.
"We use the Black Hawk for transportation, humanitarian work and for military purposes."
The UAE also awarded Sikorsky an AED64.8m contract to provide training and navigation assistance with the helicopters.
Other deals announced on Monday included a AED551m contract for local cargo airline Maximus to provide freight services to the UAE armed forces.
In total, the Gulf country signed deals valued at AED4n ($1.1bn), according to a statement carried by state-run news agency WAM.
