Emirates Internet and Multimedia is to upgrade all outdated modems in the UAE to ensure full compatibility with the latest technology.
Emirates Internet and Multimedia has announced it will upgrade modems in the UAE for free or at a reduced price to ensure compatibility with Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The offer is available to existing Al-Shamil customers who have the older incompatible modems. The move completes the UAE’s Windows upgrade program, with all other Internet services already enabled. This follows EIM’s announcement in March that it is supporting Windows 2000 and XP through its external 4060 USB modem. Al-Shamil customers who have the existing modems (3010, 3020, 4020) will be able to replace them with the 4060. EIM will provide a free replacement for those who are renting a modem, with free installation provided by Etisalat. The offer is valid for one year.Customers who have purchased a modem from EIM will be able to replace their existing modems at a reduced cost of Dhs 235, and a one off installation charge of Dhs 100. Those customers who have an annual contract will also be charged the reduced rate of Dhs 235, with installation provided for free. “Technology moves on, and we must ensure that we keep pace,” said Maroua Naim, general manager, EIM. “The Internet will increasingly become a centre of activity in the home for daily functions including shopping, communicating and relaxing. This offer to our customers is designed to enhance that shift and make sure the UAE does not slip behind in the Internet race.”
