Technology will also track when each child has entered and exited the bus
New technology proposed for school buses in the UAE will allow parents to watch live videos of their children, according to Emirates 24/7.
The new system being installed by private operators will include built-in GPS and GPRS facilities, which will also provide a wi-fi service on board the bus.
Both Etisalat and du are reportedly in negotiations with various partners to develop and roll out the new technology.
Alcatel Lucent showcased the ‘Connected Bus’ concept this week at Gitex Technology Week which can connect an entire bus fleet to one central base station.
“It firstly makes the school bus connected. You can then customise the features whichever way you want. You can either give access to parents and or the driver of the vehicle and/or the central monitoring centre,” Ahmed Youssef, Alcatel Lucent, told Emirates 24/7.
He said a radio-frequency identification tag would help track each child.
“Every time the child gets into the vehicle, the parents can be alerted. If the vehicle is switched off with a child still inside the vehicle both the driver and other monitoring parties will be immediately alerted,” he said. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
