UAE pledges over $2m to UN funds for 2011

The biggest pledge was of $1m to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees

The UAE has pledged to donate over $2m to a variety of United Nations (UN) funds and initiatives next year, it was announced this week.

The UAE's permanent representative to UN Ambassador Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Jarman confirmed the emirates will donate $2,194,000 to a number of UN humanitarian, and developmental programs.

The pledges include:

$1,000,000     United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees

$324,000       United Nations Development Programme

$200,000       United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

$100,000       United Nations Children's Fund

$100,000       International Committee of the Red Cross

$100,000       Support Fund for navigation in the Malacca Strait

$50,000        United Nations Development Fund for Women

$50,000        Central Emergency Response Fund

$50,000        Trust Fund for United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

$40,000        United Nations Environment Programme

$40,000        United Nations Fund for South-South Cooperation

$30,000        United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Fund

$30,000        United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery

$20,000        Trust Fund for Strengthening the Office of the Emergency Relief Coordinator

$10,000        United Nations Institute for Training and Research

$10,000        United Nations Population Fund

$10,000        Fund of the United Nations International Drug Control Programme

$10,000        United Nations Voluntary Fund on Disability

$10,000        United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture
