UAE president performs funeral prayers

UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday performed the funeral prayers on the body of Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Ahmed died when the glider crashed into a lake behind Saidi Mohammed bin Abdullah dam in Morocco last Friday.

The funeral congregation was performed after the Asr prayer at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, news agency WAM reported.

After the prayer, the body was taken to Al Bateen burial ground, where mourners laid the sheikh to rest.

Also offering prayers were Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Ajman, Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President's representative, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum,deputy ruler of Dubai and UAE minister of finance, Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Qaiwain and Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman.

Others who joined the funeral prayers included the Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of The Bahrain Defence Force, Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and head of the Omani delegation, Alsayed Harib Bin Thuwaini Al- Said.

A number of Sheikhs, ministers, high ranking officials, citizens, residents and ambassadors of Arab and Muslim Countries also performed the prayer.
