UAE public sector to take four-day weekend

The
public sector in the UAE will take a four-day weekend after the government
announced that the holiday to commemorate the Islamic New Year will fall this
Sunday.

“Federal
ministries and departments will remain closed from Thursday, December 2, 2010
to Sunday, December 5, 2010, to mark the UAE's 39th national day and the new
Hijri year 1432,” said a circular distributed by the country’s minister for
education, Humaid Al Qattami, according to state news agency WAM.

This is not fair for the private sector companies that were anyway enjoying a Friday saturday weekend. Now they stand to lose a holiday. How will the government be able to attract the UAE nationals to the private sector if the private sector holidays are significantly lower than the public sector holidays? Why can't the private sector enjoy the same number of holidays, after all these employees work just as hard, if not more!
