UAE-based retailer LuLu has announced the opening of a new mall in Fujairah, which includes an ice rink and represents an investment of more than AED370 million ($100 million).
LuLu Mall, which is spread across 550,000 sq ft across two levels in the Northern Emirates city, features more than 100 shops, the company said in a statement.
The mall also includes a food court, a Sparkys entertainment zone, an ice rink that is a first of its kind attraction in the city, and prayer halls.
The mall was inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, who toured the shopping centre and congratulated LuLu chief Yusuff Ali MA on the successful completion of the mall.
Yusuff Ali, managing director of LuLu Group, said: "This is a very prestigious project for us as we expand our presence across the different parts of UAE. It has been our policy to make shopping centres easily accessible to the people than making them drive a long distance to reach us."
In November, he said he was forging ahead with ambitious expansion plans that include 42 new Lulu Hypermarkets in the next two years.
Yusuff Ali, who was ranked the 40th richest Indian on the planet with a fortune of $2.2bn, said despite numbering 104 stores in the Middle East, his Abu Dhabi-based company had no intention of slowing down.
It plans to open seven new hypermarkets in the UAE in 2014-15, six in Oman, four each in Qatar and Kuwait, three each in Bahrain and Egypt and 15 in Saudi Arabia. For all the latest retail news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
