UAE's Dubal 2009 sales revenues at $1.88bn

Dubal sells 1 million tonnes of aluminium in 2009, up 7% compared to the previous year.

State-owned Dubai Aluminium Co's (Dubal) sales revenues for 2009 reached AED6.89bn ($1.88bn), the UAE's state news agency WAM reported on Wednesday. Profits for Dubal in 2009 were nearly 1.055 billion dirhams, WAM added.

Dubal sold 1 million tonnes of aluminium in 2009, up 7 percent compared to the previous year, the agency said.

Aluminium production in the Middle East is expected to exceed 3 million tonnes per year (tpy) by the end of 2010, the chairman of the newly formed Gulf Aluminium Council (GAC) Abdulla Kalban said on Tuesday.

Current production in the region was pegged at about 2 million tpy which made up about five to six percent of the global production capacity, he said.

Kalban said global aluminium demand, which is expected to grow by 12 percent this year, was being driven by construction, transportation and packaging sectors. (Reuters)
