Lender previously launched a diamond-embedded card
Mashreq bank has introduced “Portraits”, the UAE’s first 'selfie' credit card.
Through the bank’s online platform, customers can now upload a photo from their cell phone and receive a credit card with the photo on the front.
“Portraits not only allows you to express your true selfie on your card but is backed with an innovative, never before ‘direct-from-mobile’ upload process that makes the whole selfie-to-card experience seamless for the customer,” said head of payments at Mashreq, Nimish Dwivedi.
The selfie card is currently available for the Platinum Elite card, but will soon be extended to all the bank’s credit and debit cards.
Customers can either add their photo to their card or choose from Mashreq’s gallery of existing pictures.
Portraits comes with several benefits and rewards such as golfing privileges, dining offers, health and wellness discounts, and travel benefits.
Mashreq bank has also launched the UAE’s first diamond-embedded card, Solitaire, as well as TAP n GO, the UAE’s first NFC-based sticker card.
Yes, because that's exactly what we all want from a credit card, the opportunity to have a picture of our face on it.
Heaven help us if we want something like a more secure card that actually uses Chip and PIN, or something useful like contactless payment.
Or a way of paying your bill via direct debit.
Or something like, oh, I don't know, a 12-month balance transfer offer or 0% interest on purchases for 3 months. Or cashback, either for yourself or a charity of your choice?
You know, stuff that actually has a point and tends to be used by credit card providers and banks in other developed countries. But nope, more diamonds and pretty pictures please!
Wish the banks come with more payment options and not barbie doll kinda features. Make our transactions easy, improve your customer services - not a selfie card.
I wouldn't like to show my credit card to any one due to a fraud etc. and here is a bank encouraging people to share their pics on the credit card.
