Telcos in the UAE announced on Thursday they will cut phone bills in half for their older customers.
Etisalat and du have agreed with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), to offer 50 percent discounts on data and calls packages to UAE senior citizens.
Etisalat also will offer exclusive customer service facilities, such as priority access to Etisalat business centres and prioritised response to any calls made to the customer care centre.
Senior customers with du will receive up to 50 percent off post-paid packages and a doubling of any prepaid credit they purchase.
The discounts have been negotiated as part of the government’s Masarra Card for senior citizens.
“In the Year of Giving launched by our wise leadership, this initiative reflects the social responsibility of both the TRA and telecom service providers in the country. It also expresses the partnership and joint efforts to contribute in achieving happiness,” TRA director general Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori said.
“We consider this initiative as a simple but meaningful gesture as it concerns the senior citizens whom we respect and appreciate, based on a long tradition of solidarity and consideration to senior citizens.”For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
