Applicants can pay extra to get documents within 24 hours
The UK has launched a ‘super-priority’ visa service that will process visas for applicants from Dubai and Abu Dhabi within 24 hours.
From today, the service will be on offer at UK visa application centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It costs an extra £600 ($893), compared to the regular process.
Under current UK rules a short-term visit visa for six months will cost £83. A longer-term visa for up to two years will cost £300.
Emiratis travelling to the UK for up to six months can apply for an electronic visa waiver (EVW) for free under recently introduced rules.
The UAE is now one of only a handful of countries where the UK provides the fast-track service, Khaleej Times reported.
It means applicants who submit visa applications in the morning could receive their documents later that day or at least within 24 hours, which will appeal to businessmen and women wanting extra speed and flexibility with their travel arrangements.
Khaleej Times quotes Philip Parham, the UK’s Ambassador to the UAE, said the new service “offers another option for tourists, business people and students who need to travel to the UK at the last minute”.
Customers who wish to use the new service need to book a super-priority visa service appointment when they make their visa application online.
Appointments will be available between 8am and 10am, Sunday to Thursday, at the Visa Application Centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
