Noor TV presenter called for Muslims to murder those who insulted Prophet Mohammed
A British Islamic television network was fined £85,000 ($132,000) after its presenter instructed viewers to murder anyone who insulted the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).
The UK broadcasting watchdog Ofcom ruled that the on-air rant on Birmingham-based satellite channel Noor TV last May could have radicalised members of its audience and incited them to commit crimes.
The incident, which occurred in 3 May last year and was aired predominantly in Urdu, involved presented Allama Muhammad Farooq Nizami, who hosts a live call-in show. When asked by a viewer what the punishment is for an individual who shows disrespect to the Prophet Mohammed, Nizami responded: “There is absolutely no doubt about it that the punishment for the person who shows disrespect for the prophet is death. No one disagrees about this.”
Ofcom said that the remarks on Noor TV were so inflammatory that they could have inspired a response comparable to the murder of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gough in 2004, whose work was condemned by Islamic clerics.
Ofcom also warned Noor TV, which it said had a “weak compliance record”, to air a summary of its finding and not to repeat the inflammatory segment.
Noor TV broadcasts in languages including English, Urdu and Punjabi. It says it seeks to “present a balanced, moderate and true face of Islam to both Muslim and non-Muslim communities across the globe”.
If it has a weak compliance record, shut it down.
A fine is not enough. Shut them down. Moslem countries would not hesitate if the roles were reversed.
England cringes before Islam, We are now an effete society.Islamic immigrants are amused and certainly unimpressed by England and its society which is frightened to defend itself against them.
