The UK government will charter two flights to evacuate British citizens from Bahrain, prime minister David Cameron’s spokesman said.

These are “supplementary flights” and are not intended to replace commercial flights, Steve Field told reporters in London today.

Each flight will cost 260 pounds per person. The UK government is encouraging citizens to use commercial flights where available and considers “it is possible to get through to the airports,” Field said.

He estimated there are less than 7,000 Britons left in Bahrain.
