A
US$300m shopping mall development to open in Lebanon next year will create 1,200
retail jobs, developer Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) has said.

Beirut
City Centre, located in the capital’s Hazmieh district on the Damascus-Beirut
road, will house a
total of 200 stores over three levels and 40
international food and beverage outlets.

It is the
first shopping destination to be built by mall developer MAF in the country
and will also include a VOX Cinemas multiplex and a Magic Planet family
entertainment centre.

Waddah El
Solh, country head for the Levant region at MAF Properties, said the mall would
“foster growth within the local economy and specifically the retail sector”
and would also create 2,500 temporary construction
jobs.

MAF
commenced construction on the mall in September 2009 and has scheduled
completion for early 2013.

Key
features of the destination include the first Carrefour hypermarket in Lebanon,
occupying a 13,000 sqm area, as well as an open-air, rooftop dining area.

As with
some of MAF’s other retail destinations, the mall is also aiming for a LEED
silver rating by incorporating eco-friendly technologies into the design.
