The Obama administration on Wednesday forcefully defended the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by US military forces as an act of national self defence and said that he made no attempt to surrender.

US Attorney General Eric Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee that bin Laden had no intention of being captured by American forces which conducted the operation over the weekend in Pakistan.

"Let me make something very clear, the operation in which Osama bin Laden was killed was lawful. He was the head of al Qaeda, an organisation that had conducted the attacks of September 11. He admitted his involvement," said Holder, the chief US law enforcement officer.

It was lawful to target bin Laden because he was the enemy commander in the field and the operation was conducted in a way that was consistent with US laws and values, he said, adding that it was a "kill or capture mission."

"It was justified as an act of national self-defence," Holder said. "If he had surrendered, attempted to surrender, I think we should obviously have accepted that, but there was no indication that he wanted to do that and therefore his killing was appropriate," Holder said.

No matter what others say? The killing of Osama Bin Laden is justified. He is a terrorist and his Organisation is known for spreading hatred, brainwashing people.

It made me feel sick when I read the news that some fanatical people object killing of Osama and burying him in the sea.

These people should stop complaining and move on with their life and look after their family and educate their children for better future.

This terrorist does not deserve all the concern being wasted by so many people. What hogwash to complain that he was not armed when he was shot! What do these people expect to happen - the soldiers knock on his door tell him to pick up a gun so the do-gooders can be happier about the soldier shooting him!! Did he offer anything like that to the thousands of innocent people he killed. Let's stop all this self recrimination and enjoy the fact that the world is a better place without Bin Laden.

First of all I agree he wasn’t a do gooder BUT, he is bad for the thousand that died in the USA and other places, but the tens of thousands that died in Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq it ok that Children, Women, elderly and men that die in these three countries.
I think what is not OK is for any country to take the excuse of religion, peace, protection of other countries to take matters in to their own hands and act according to their belief of a so called better world.

The obituary of UBL will read: There lies Usama Bin Laden, 56 years old, directly or indirectly responsible for the death of thousands of innocent men, women and children in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, the USA, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Algiers, Jordan, Iraq, Spain, England and Germany in addition to many other countries. Remember the victims before you sympathize with the killer.

While you are into making obituaries , you can make a template only changing name and use it for every tax payer in US as there tax money is being used to kill thousands in iraq , afghanistan , france , libya , sudan and nigeria.
You can make good business writing obituaries :)

Scorpio, religion has nothing to do with this as our religion does not allow the killing of innocent unarmed ppl and what these brain washed individuals did does not and will not be accepted as a religious act it’s an act of terrorism and religion has nothing to do with it. let me ask you a question what provoked Al Qaeda and UBL to start these attached? Who trained him on gorilla war fare who put him in this area and WHY?
Which American president is a partner in several petroleum companies with UBL and other American business men? Where r the biological weapons in Iraq? Where is the freedom of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan? Who is taking all their resources? And by the way people are refusing the statement of the USA of “burying UBL at Sea according to Islamic tradition “ there is no such thing in Islam unless you die at sea and you are not near any land not to exceeds approximately one day. This is what everybody is disagreeing about mainly. As for killing him or not I don’t care
