The new regional manager for VGA card and motherboard producer Zotac has signalled the company's intent to strengthen its brand in the Middle East by launching a channel expansion drive.
Although its parent company PC Partner has a long association with the Middle East, Zotac is a fairly new entrant to the regional market, operating solely through Jebel Ali-based distributor Sky Electronics.
Newly appointed regional chief, Mohammed Ibrahim, who formerly worked at components distributor FDC and motherboard vendor Sapphire, insists the company is keen to exploit the spike in demand for graphic cards among the gaming community and serious PC users.
"To achieve our targets we will be appointing business partners across the region that have the right customer breadth," explained Ibrahim. "Sky will be the only distributor for the GCC in the near future, but our focus will also be on Egypt, Iran and Saudi Arabia. We will work with a maximum of two distributors in each country and we'd prefer to work with local distributors that can drive brand awareness."
Ibrahim says the firm also intends to establish a local office and eventually launch a local RMA service and channel loyalty programme.
Although Hong Kong-owned Zotac claims to be one of the largest Nvidia add-in board and motherboard assemblers, Ibrahim is under no illusions of the task the company faces to penetrate the regional market. "As an Nvidia partner our competitors are AMD-ATI partners, but we also face the challenge of competition from other Nvidia partners because its market share in the Middle East is more than 75%," he claimed.
