Emirates announced a $16bn agreement with Airbus on January 18 for 36 additional A380 aircraft, with 20 firm orders and 16 options.
Deliveries will run from 2022 to 2029 for the deal which has resurrected the fortunes of the A380.
The move is the culmination of a spate of orders by Emirates and its partner Flydubai, who have bought a combined total of 301 aircraft since day one of Dubai Airshow on November 17, 2017.
It’s the crowning achievement for Tom Leahy, chief of sales at Airbus, and will cement Emirates reputation as the A380 carrier of choice.
The ramifications of this deal for the industry are discussed in detail as are the fortunes of Emirates as it plans ahead for global growth.
