Trump's tariffs and the UAE

Donald Trump has proposed a ten percent tariff on imported steel and aluminium. The US president sees it as a key objective of his campaign promises to protect American blue-collar workers and the country's traditional industries.

But what is the effect on this region? Local exporters, including Emirates Global Aluminium and Emirates Steel, posted strong results for 2017 and are confident that their global exports more than cover the shortfall of any slowdown in the US market.

On this edition of Inside AB, Jeremy Lawrence and Bernd Debusmann discuss the likely impact of Trump’s plans with regards to the UAE, and also review the opinions of Danny Sebright, the president of the US-UAE Business Council, a Washington, D.C.-based business advocacy organisation, who spoke with Arabian Business shortly after the proposals were announced.
