There are an estimated 350,000 freelancers in the UAE and, thanks to new technologies, it is increasingly regarded as an alternative to the corporate world.
There are also new platforms such as Bawabba, a new portal that connects service providers from media and design to childcare and removals to companies seeking specialised talent. And there is Mumzworld which provides flexible jobs to empower working mothers.
However, there are challenges. Worldwide, 85 percent of freelancers quit within 30 months. And here in the UAE there is VAT to consider.
